Reading Jeremiah 9:12-24
But let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,’ declares the Lord.Jeremiah 9:24 NIV
The first 10 or 11 verses of the passage depict a scene that is of carnage and wailing, it is destruction brought upon the people, and is often how those outside the faith view God; angry and punitive. I have even heard some octogenarians who have spent their life in church express this understanding. However, when we come to the end of the passage we have verse 24, which starts with a “but”. This verse shows the reality that the God seen in the Old Testament is the same God of Love we see in the New. God doesn’t want pain, he delights in what is good.
What will you do today that gives a false image of God, and what will show kindness, justice and righteousness?
