It’s bed time! Actually long after it, and I’m nearly heading up the stairs but look at that moon, big and bright how can anyone tonight simply turn in when the wonder of the creator is displayed so brilliantly above, so instead of simply allowing the dog out for a brief wander in the garden, I step out there too. There is a coolness and calmness. A senses of order and that all is right. The news has just been telling me chaos, a pandemic has swept the globe, businesses are shut including the pub opposite which usually would give a slight backdrop of noise, people are dying, including some I know and yet…. And yet here in the garden under the stars in the shape of the plough there is still.
“This is what the LORD says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar – the LORD Almighty is his name: ‘Only if these decrees vanish from my sight,’ declares the LORD, ‘will Israel ever cease being a nation before me.’” Jeremiah 31:35-36 NIVUK
God loves His people, he does not abandon but constantly is there, all powerful and yet compassionate. He is with us in the midst of our national and international crisis, May he through his Holy Spirit bring healing and wholeness to this earth. May He give wisdom and strength to each nurse and doctor, to the scientist and ethicists with difficult decisions to make. May He give courage to the hospital cleaner stamina to the logistics driver and empower each one in the health sector who is doing their utmost. And may He also give his light to guide the way through the darkness so that governments may follow the right path forward.
