The Church

How much value do we put in earthly things, including our places of worship?

Here’s a passage from Holy Week

As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!’

Do you see all these great buildings? replied Jesus. Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.

Mark 13: 1-2

Look at these “magnificent buildings” said a disciple. What a church building looks like is currently inconsequential. The buildings appearance has no real value because it cannot be used, we must remain outside of it. The temple of Jerusalem would within 40 years be ruined and not be rebuilt. However Jesus would also speak of himself as being a temple, one which would be torn down, but one that would be rebuilt in 3days, when he would rise from the tomb.

The building is not the church, the people are. It is the people who are the body of Christ in the world today, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to serve the purpose of our heavenly Father.

Please pray for the Church to be inspired in proclaiming the coming of Christ’s kingdom. May the truth of hope shine out from us to those we interact with – even at a distance –  so that the Gospel of Love is spread in word and deed. May we, the Church, be praying for God’s power to be seen in this land at this time of worldwide crisis.
